So far most of my posts on the blog have been about jewellery worn by us on ourselves. On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, I have the unique opportunity to write about the jewellery made and adorned by none other than Lord Ganesha. The masterpieces have especially been designed and curated by the famed PNG Jewellers for renowned Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati in Pune, India.
This year is even more special as the 'Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Mandal' is in its 125th year of celebration. PNG Jewellers has been consistently a part of Dagdusheth Ganpati's festivities since its inception.
Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mukut (Crown) Studded With Diamonds, Stones And Gemstones Like Ruby, Emerald Etc And Is Designed By PNG Jewellers
PNG Jewellers involved approx 40 craftsmen who worked extensively for around 5 months, to prepare the jewellery which is made completely in Gold. The ornament is studded with more than 60,000 precious stones and gems like rubies and emeralds, weighing approx 40kg and said to be valued at whooping approx Rs 15 Crore. Intricate traditional craftsmanship like filigree work and nakashi have been used to create these marvels.

7 different crowns have been created for Ganpati Bappa to be used every day of the Ganpati festivity. The ornaments include meticulously handcrafted Ganesh Mukut, 7 changeable Zali (front part of Mukut) and 7 changeable Prabhaval (net around the Mukut), Uparna, Angarkha, Pitambar, Kaan (ear), Shunda bhushan and a necklace. Designed to perfection by gold smiths from Maharashtra, Bengal and Karnataka these beautiful pieces derive inspiration from Indian traditions embracing lotus, kalash, elephant, kirtimukha, peacock and trident and are carved using gold, emeralds, rubies, white diamonds.

Theme Of Dagdusheth Ganpati 2017
According to Ashok Godse, President of the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust, and Director Suvarnayug Sahakari Bank, this year the theme is a replica of Brahmanaspati temple. This temple is a shrine of an abstract deity of Brahma in the Veda. It finds mention in Rigveda and in the ancient Mudgala texts dedicated to Ganesha. (as quoted in Hindustan Times Pune)
